A Candy Store-y
It all started when little Flossie was born under a grapevine on Mr C’s property, down in a valley where lots of other rabbits lived and played. She spent her days hopping around in the safety of her backyard, exploring meadows, bounding over creeks and hiding in big round bales of hay. One day the oldest and wisest rabbit said to Flossie “You are growing up. It is time for you to make a life somewhere else”. And so he sent her away.
Flossie thought she would find another valley like the one she’d just left but instead she found a very different place. The land was dry and dusty. There were no trees or green grass. There were no clouds or creeks with water. There was no colour. It did not look joyful. Flossie found her days were all the same, week in, week out. She kept hoping things would change. ‘There must be a nicer place to live’ she thought as she dreamt of a cosy cottage amongst the cool trees, with plenty of green grass and bright flowers.
Still searching sometime later, her heart shaped nose picked up a scent. It was something familiar, carried on a breeze. It was the smell of flowers. She followed her nose until she came to one growing…. and then another…. and then a bunch where some butterflies hovered. Ahead on the horizon were some wispy clouds. With excitement mounting she hopped up over the crest of the hill and found what she had been looking for. A valley with waterfalls and a river. A large green meadow with tall trees and big puffy clouds. And hidden there amongst patches of sweet-smelling flowers, wild mint and strawberries was the cottage of her dreams.
“This is much nicer.” Flossie said. “I shall stay here.”
She moved in at once and named the place ‘COTTON CLOUD COTTAGE’ after the fluffy clouds above. She filled the cottage with FUN, DELIGHT, WHIMSY and VERY SWEET, and hung a sign on the door which read: ‘OPEN FOR BUSINESS’
